SPQR is a book about the Roman Empire from its beginning to its eventual decline. The evolution of the Empire and the form of government is fascinating, especially, since institutions were rarely abolished, as is the case with the Roman Senate. Despite this respect for institutions, the form of government would change over the course of the history (monarchy, republic, emperor). The book also explores the difficulties of building a multicultural state and maintaining control over much of the known world. SPQR is a really interesting and analytical overview of Roman history and I would definitely recomend it!
