French Empire 20 Francs

Napoleon the third was the ruler of France from 1848 to 1870 (when France lost a war with Prussia). His coinage was based on the franc (and centime) as monetary units and was a bimetallic (silver and gold together), especially, in the age of the Latin Monetary Union when gold coins of 10, 20, 50 and 100 francs were struck. The coins minted in gold are 22 karat. The coins featuring Napoleon III include a depiction of him by the engraver Jean-Jacques Barre, who also created engravings for other LMU (Latin Monetary Union) countries, such as, the portraits of the king that appear on Greek coins of the period.
